A School Observation is a highly valuable component of a comprehensive evaluation. While office-based testing provides precise data on cognitive and academic abilities, observing a student in their natural learning environment offers essential context that testing alone cannot capture. When requested as part of your child’s evaluation, I conduct a formal school observation to see how they navigate their daily educational setting.

To get a complete and balanced picture of your child's day, I observe them across two distinct types of school environments:

• Structured Time (Classroom Instruction): I observe how your child attends to teacher-led instruction, manages transitions between tasks, organizes their materials, handles distractions, and approaches independent work.
• Unstructured Time (Recess, Lunch, or Transitions): I observe how your child navigates less formal settings. This allows me to evaluate their social interactions with peers, communication skills, and ability to self-regulate without direct adult direction.

The objective data and behavioral insights gathered during the school visit are not kept separate; I integrate them directly into your child’s final, comprehensive evaluation report. By combining standardized office testing with real-world classroom observations, I can provide practical, realistic recommendations and school accommodations (such as IEP or 504 Plan modifications) that are tailored specifically to your child's actual school environment.
